"Liberated by Learning: Parbati Chaudhary's Journey to Literacy and Empowerment"

My name is Parbati Chaudhary, and I reside in Baluwaphanta village, Kanchanpur. For years, I dedicated myself to managing household responsibilities as I lacked literacy. Though I longed to pursue education, my days were filled with household chores – cleaning, cooking, and caring for my family. Witnessing my children study, I yearned for the same opportunity. Each day, amidst my chores, I pondered on how education could have empowered me to achieve more.
Dependent on my husband for financial needs, I stumbled upon an opportunity that intrigued me – a literacy class where women were taught basic arithmetic and Nepali for eight months. Reflecting on my missed chances for education in childhood, I resolved not to let this opportunity slip away. United Vision Nepal (UVN) initiated a literacy class in our village, and I eagerly enrolled, knowing education could be a catalyst for positive change in my life.
Initially, my lack of literacy posed challenges; I harbored a strong desire to learn tailoring but struggled due to my inability to measure, draw patterns, or comprehend numbers. Before joining the literacy class, I couldn’t even write my name. However, with dedicated effort, I can now read books, perform basic arithmetic operations like addition and subtraction, and recognize numbers from 1 to 100.
This literacy class has instilled newfound confidence within me, transforming my daily routine. Mornings are dedicated to learning tailoring, while evenings are reserved for the literacy class. I envision a future where I can live happily and confidently, no longer limited by illiteracy. Grateful to UVN for granting me this life-changing opportunity, I eagerly anticipate a future filled with possibilities.
