Hygiene Triumph: Mina B.K.'s Journey to Menstrual Health

Mina B.K., 40-year-old woman residing in the village of Jaruwa, Mirchaya Municipality of Siraha District. Mina lives with her husband and son-in-law, dedicating her days to her work as a goat herder. Despite her age, Mina had never paid much attention to menstrual hygiene. In the past, she used to wear the same pad for several days, unaware of the proper way to dispose of it after use. This unhealthy practice led to painful sores in her reproductive organs, constant itching, and a lack of cleanliness. The embarrassment she felt prevented her from discussing these issues with others leading to big problems. However, when United Vision Nepal organized a training session on menstrual hygiene in her village, and she actively participated. During the training, she acquired knowledge about proper menstrual hygiene practices. She learned to use pads correctly, changing them every 4-5 hours, embracing daily bathing rituals, and washing her cotton clothes meticulously before drying them in the warm embrace of the sun. Now, thanks to the newfound knowledge and determination, Mina diligently follows these hygiene practices. She no longer wears the same pad for an extended period, and as a result, she has triumphed over various challenges. The painful sores have healed, her hesitation to engage with people has waned, and she finds it easier to speak up. Overall, her hygiene has vastly improved, leading to a significant reduction in body itching and discomfort. Filled with gratitude, Mina extends her heartfelt thanks to United Vision Nepal for providing her with this essential training. Their support has not only transformed her personal well-being but has also empowered her to lead a healthier and more confident life within her community.
